Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is often misunderstood and frequently misdiagnosed, leaving many individuals trapped in cycles of intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviors. This engaging CE course provides clinicians with a strong foundation in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard treatment for OCD. Participants will learn how to accurately diagnose OCD, develop individualized case conceptualizations and exposure hierarchies. and confidently implement evidence-based ERP interventions that promote lasting symptom improvement.
Training Objectives:
- Accurately diagnose obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
- Explain the theoretical underpinnings of exposure and response prevention (ERP), including habituation and inhibitory learning.
- Formulate a comprehensive case conceptualization and individualized exposure hierarchy for clients presenting with OCD.
- Design and implement both in-vivo and imaginal exposure exercises tailored to specific core fears.
- Apply effective response prevention strategies, including managing mental compulsions and subtle avoidance behaviors.
- Develop strategies to address common clinical obstacles in ERP delivery, such as family accommodation and non-compliance with treatment.
Instructor:
David Bradley, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist and the owner of Southern New Hampshire OCD & Anxiety Services, a private practice in Bedford, NH. He specializes in the treatment of adults with OCD, anxiety, and related disorders. He is the vice president of OCD New Hampshire, an affiliate of IOCDF, and he has presented introductory and advanced trainings in ERP to hundreds of local clinicians. Dr. Bradley earned an M.A. in mental health counseling from Boston College, where he completed an internship at McLean Hospital’s OCD Institute, before earning his Ph.D. at Case Western Reserve University. He is an adjunct professor in Rivier University’s Psy.D. program. Before deciding to enter private practice, Dr. Bradley was an assistant professor at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS.
Jeanette Nogales, LCMHC, M.Ed., CAGS, is the owner and clinician at The OCD and Anxiety Center for Change, where she specializes in the treatment of OCD, anxiety, and related disorders using evidence-based approaches, including ERP and ACT. She has over 20 years of clinical experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families across outpatient, residential, hospital, and private practice settings. Jeanette previously served as Associate Clinical Director, Residential Director, and Director of Training at Mountain Valley Treatment Center, where she provided intensive treatment and supervision focused on OCD and anxiety disorders. She is an executive board member of the New Hampshire IOCDF affiliate and has completed the International OCD Foundation’s Behavioral Therapy Training Institute (BTTI) and Advanced BTTI for OCD. Jeanette has presented trainings on ACT and ERP for anxiety and OCD and provides ongoing consultation, supervision, and professional education for clinicians.
